EPOS Template and Tracking

Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Co-op, Iceland and other retail UK chains all use EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) Information systems to provide suppliers with basic information and allow them to analyse performance internally. There is usually a cost to gain access to these systems, but it is normally seen as a necessary term of trading which suppliers will be expected to subscribe to.

These systems vary by retailer, however the usual minimum types of data included are Value Sales, Volume Sales (Units), Distribution, Product and Logistics Data. Some systems go much further and if you are the category captain, you may be able to gain access to full category and competitor data; the purpose of which is to allow market leading suppliers to help develop categories in partnership with the retailer. There is usually up to 2 years back data (depending on when you started trading) providing you with crucial views on trends and performance (including visibility on promotional success).

EPOS Template and Tracking

From past experience in using many of these systems, we have used this data to answer key business questions and provide information used as a basis for generating growth; Category Wins can set up an easy to use Excel based template to help you take full advantage of these systems.

This template will give you a snapshot of Yearly, Quarterly, and Weekly and in some cases daily performance, shares, sector and sub-sector performance and share and then track these metrics over timegiving you complete visual granularity of your product / range on the same basis as  the retailer sees it. This may be able to be adapted to connect to your internal forecasting systems generating greater efficiencies.
